Water Orders Lifted For Dunkirk, District | News, Sports, Jobs
The Dunkirk and North County Water District boil water and conservation order was lifted at 11 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release issued by the city.
“Mayor (Wilfred) Rosas would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication during this unprecedented drinking water emergency,” the release stated.
The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services said water samples collected on Thursday and Friday showed the water was safe to drink and use for all other purposes.
“The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services, city of Dunkirk and Chadwick Bay Intermunicipal North Chautauqua County Water District would like to thank all impacted water customers for their cooperation and patience during this unprecedented water emergency,” the county release noted.
Besides the city, customers impacted were in the towns of Dunkirk, Pomfret, Portland, Sheridan and the village of Brocton.
The boil and conservation order went into effect after a major water line break at Lake Shore Drive early Tuesday morning. It left thousands of city users without water for up to two days due to pressure issues.
It also hampered Brooks-TLC Hospital in Dunkirk as the situation forced the cancellation of surgeries.
