OAW Sports Complex in New Berlin suffers partial collapse from severe weather
NEW BERLIN, Wis. — The roof of the OAW Indoor Sports Complex in New Berlin partially collapsed, in large part due to rain and severe weather Tuesday night, authorities say. A city of New Berlin spokesperson wrote in a statement that crews responded to the building around 7:47 p.m. for a partial collapse with as many as 50 people inside. They shut off the natural gas line to the building because a strong odor was coming from the front door. The owner of the building told fire crews that he was confident everyone got out, after reviewing onsite security camera footage. Police are urging Aucklanders to avoid the temptation of water sports, which would breach lockdown restrictions, as warmer weather starts to set in.
