EA Originals Partners with Dynasty Warriors Studio for a New Monster Hunter-like

EA has announced that its EA Originals label has entered a partnership with Koei Tecmo and Dynasty Warriors studio Omega Force for a new hunting game – that’s like Monster Hunter hunting, not Big Buck Hunter hunting. We don’t know a ton of details yet about what this new hunting game will be, but EA did say it is a “AAA experience” and is based in fantasy feudal Japan. We’re expected to get more details about it later this month, which could suggest a showing at Tokyo Game Show this week. Indie studio Tender Claws unionizes under CODE-CWA

Another video game studio is unionizing. Workers at Los Angeles-based indie studio Tender Claws will unionize with the Communications Workers of America’s Campaign to Organize Digital Employees, workers told Polygon this week. The union will consist of at least 13 workers across several different departments, including both full-time and part-time producers, artists, and programmers. One hundred percent of the bargaining unit supports the effort, workers said. Tender Claws’ union is called Tender Claws Human Union, a nod to the company’s own game, Virtual Virtual Reality, that features an in-game union for humans that work for AI. “[Virtual Virtual Reality] is very much about the gig economy and worker rights,” Tender…

Hook’s new venture follows his departure from 343 Industries, where he served head of design on Halo Infinite. Hook also helped launch Xbox Live and worked on…

Sony has today announced that it has officially acquired a new game developer that will be joining the ranks of PlayStation Studios. Earlier this year, it was revealed that PlayStation would be purchasing Haven Studios, which is a new company founded by video game industry veteran Jade Raymond. And while it remains to be seen what Haven will be creating, the studio can now begin working with those at PlayStation in a formal capacity. PlayStation announced on social media this morning that the deal to acquire Haven has now officially closed, which means that the studio is now part of PlayStation Studios. In total, Haven is the 20th developer that now…

A big name in the world of video games is starting a New Orleans studio, bringing high-paying jobs | Business News

New Orleans’ budding video-game sector is set for a big boost, with one of the industry’s most celebrated entrepreneurs starting a new gaming studio in the city with the promise of 75 local jobs paying an average of $100,000 a year each. There are few bigger names in digital gaming than Jeff Strain, who founded and sold two video-game companies over the last two decades, and who is starting his latest studio — Possibility Space — on Poydras Street in the Central Business District. The move is a coup for economic development agencies GNO Inc. and Louisiana Economic Development, which have courted Strain at his former base in Seattle for…
