Asbury Intramural’s involves students in indoor sports

Asbury offers a variety of intramurals during each season ranging from soccer in the early fall to volleyball when the weather cools off. While we haven’t experienced the cold nip of the impending winter season recently, fall sports have come to a close, ushering in the time for indoor sports. For many students, this is their only opportunity to compete in sports while in school.  It gives students a chance to get the team experience in a reasonable dose for their busy schedule. “Intramurals is a great…

Hite Jr. to relax a policy that said unvaccinated students could not play, no exceptions. Now, students who play outdoor sports with low- or intermediate-COVID-19 risk, including baseball, softball, lacrosse, track and field, and tennis, can apply for medical or religious exemptions, according to an email sent this week and obtained by The Inquirer. But those who play indoor sports, including badminton…

Texas bill banning transgender students in school sports heads to governor’s desk

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is poised to sign a bill barring transgender youth from participating on school sports teams that align with their gender identity. The measure requires public schools from elementary to collegiate levels to assign athletes based on the sex noted on their birth certificates “at or near the time of birth.” A trans sports ban bill cleared the Republican-controlled House 76-54 on Thursday, then went to the state Senate on Friday, where it passed 19-12. After returning to the House for reconciliation, it was approved a final time 76-61.  It now heads to Abbott, who has indicated he intends to sign it.  The University Interscholastic League in…
