Indoor sports facility reportedly going downtown; Commission to vote on acquiring block housing Antique Mall
It appears the proposed $19 million indoor sports facility will be built downtown. City Commissioners on Tuesday will vote on whether to purchase the full block of properties housing and surrounding the Owensboro Antique Mall — which is one block directly south of a future hotel and two south of the Convention Center. City Manager Nate Pagan said Commissioners will vote on acquiring the group of properties located in between West 3rd and 4th streets and Locust and Cedar streets as well as a roughly $44 million bond agreement. Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves hopes to bring “Project Pickle” up for a vote by City Council in January. Speaking at his first press conference as mayor Tuesday, Reeves said he is continuing negotiations begun under former Mayor Grover Robinson to bring an indoor sports facility to the Port of Pensacola’s Warehouse No. 4. New UK facility to be named Jim Green Indoor Track and Field Center
The new indoor track and field facility at the University of Kentucky will be called the Jim Green Indoor Track and Field Center, named for Jim Green, the first African American student-athlete at Kentucky and in the Southeastern Conference to win NCAA and SEC Championships.
