New Zealand’s Sadowski-Synnott, Japan’s Hasegawa soar to big air gold at World Cup in Edmonton

No Canadians made it to the podium at Saturday night’s FIS World Cup big air snowboard event at Commonwealth Stadium. But the night saw some snowboarding history being made. New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott struck gold in the women’s event, while Japan’s Taiga Hasegawa won the men’s final. Sadowski-Synnott earned her gold by acing a jump that, before this weekend, had never been tried before in women’s snowboarding. She stunned many of her fellow riders when she nailed a switchback 1260 and got a whopping 99 out of 100 in qualifying. She tried it with her first jump in the finals, but fell. She tried it again with jump No. 2,…

Bucs defense met for dinner Monday to air grievances, improve camaraderie

TAMPA ― One day after it gave up the tying touchdown with 32 seconds left before losing to the Cleveland Browns in overtime, Bucs inside linebacker Devin White organized a dinner party for the entire defense. The players had plenty to chew on. After allowing a touchdown on the opening drive, the Bucs yielded only a field goal until the one-handed catch for a tying touchdown by Browns tight end David Njoku on fourth and 10 from the 12-yard line. It’s been a recurring theme. Despite ranking sixth in the NFL in fewest points allowed (18.5 per game), the Bucs failed to hold onto a fourth-quarter lead in a loss…

Huskies Reach Rarified Air in Final Pac-12 Football Power Rankings

As much as the University of Washington football team could score in a blink of the eye — see the first play of the second half in the Apple Cup — its climb up the Pac-12 power rankings was a lot like watching a fresh coat of paint on Husky Stadium dry. It was maddening slow, almost painful to consume. The Huskies initially were ranked low, and rightfully slow, after coming off a 4-8 season in 2021. Then just when they were beginning to draw some attention with a 4-0 start under Kalen DeBoer, they lost to UCLA, no arguments there, and did a face plant at Arizona State — when the Huskies…

Now the upstart team advances to the knockout stage.  Of course, our focus is always on what players and coaches wear. Coach Gregg Berhalter is developing a fanbase of sneakerheads who pay close attention to what the 49-year-old has on his feet.…
