THE ROLE & THE TEAMAs a Senior Buyer for Outdoor in the Sports category, you will be part of a driven and high performing team! You will work alongside the Head of Buying to develop an assortment strategy for the Outdoor business unit. You will analyse macroeconomics interdependencies of the Outdoor industry between brands, industry and consumer trends and derive the right strategic implementations for the brand portfolio and assortment mix, which are also in line with the given financial targets. You will also be part of the onsite experience improvement process in cooperation with internal stakeholders in order to drive authenticity and credibility for Outdoor on Zalando. You will be motivated by the ambitious goals, dynamic e-commerce environment, brand management, and complex negotiation topics. You will show a passion for team leadership and people development and oversee a talented team of Buyers.

  • Shaping the short/long term strategy and creative direction for the Outdoor unit. While taking into account the big picture: Zalando strategy, consumer & market trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Negotiating the best terms for Zalando whilst continuously building positive relations with our existing suppliers across both wholesale and platform business models.
  • Showing strong command of KPIs to monitor and review the Unit performance in order to make bold in-season trade decisions. Collaborating with the Merchandising team to plan seasonal budgets and OTB.
  • Always challenging and evolving your business to support our company strategy, whilst inspiring brands to take next steps in their Zalando journey.
  • Working cross functionally with other departments like Content, Customer Analytics, Social Media, and Supply Chain Logistics to drive business impact and exchange in best practices.
  • Leading the team by example while shaping strategic understanding and functional knowledge on an individual basis.


  • Minimum 5 years of buying experience in a Head Office environment, ideally having worked with international brands
  • Negotiation is in your blood, and you are a confident communicator with suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Proven track record delivering exceptional results in regards to assortment planning, brand management and strategy building/implementation
  • Excellent analytical skills, knowledge in MS Office (especially Excel) and combining the passion for numbers with fashion and trends
  • You display a collaborative work ethic, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills and are a role model for the Zalando Founding Mindset
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong partnership with the Merchandising team, to support and develop the large basic assortment of the unit
  • Quick thinking and entrepreneurial attitude, which also means you can clearly prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Team focused outlook whilst ensuring proactive independent working practices.
