Loves Park restaurateur to run Skybox at park district’s Indoor Sports Center
LOVES PARK — The Rockford Park District’s Skybox Restaurant & Sports Bar at Mercyhealth Sportscore Two, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., will be under new management beginning this fall.
Nick Fosberg, who owns and operates Fozzy’s Bar & Grill, 6246 E. Riverside Blvd., has signed an agreement with the park district to manage what will be called Fozzy’s Skybox.
The restaurant is located inside the Mercyhealth Sportscore Two’s massive Indoor Sports Center, which features soccer fields and a golf practice center.
“What excites me is being able to do indoor golf events and charity events,” Fosberg said. “There’s also a huge patio that overlooks the soccer fields and they’re (park district) going to allow us to have bands or acoustic sets during soccer tournaments, so I see a lot of opportunity in the summertime to do outdoor events on the patio.”
Fosberg said the venue’s menu will mirror the food items currently served at Fozzy’s Bar & Grill, including burgers, sandwiches, homemade appetizers, specialty pizza and salads.

The initial term of the lease agreement, which was approved Tuesday by parks commissioners, will be for one year. During the first year of the deal, Fosberg will pay the park district an operator fee of $9,000 per month. The agreement will automatically renew each year for a maximum of three additional years unless either party gives notice not to renew.
“The agreement will allow the Rockford Park District to focus on recreational services and concessions,” Rockford Park District Executive Director Jay Sandine said in a statement. “We are continuing to do what our citizens wanted us to do, reduce our footprint and free up operational and capital resources to invest in priorities such as neighborhood parks, playgrounds, youth programs, trails, and priority projects such as Clarence Hicks Memorial Sports Park, Lockwood Park, Levings Lake Park, and Washington Park Community Center.”
Fozzy’s Skybox will be open seven days a week, Fosberg said. Fozzy’s Skybox is Fozzy’s second Rockford area location. Fozzy’s Bar & Grill in Spring Hill, Tenn. opened in 2021.
A soft opening is planned for Fozzy’s Skybox on Oct. 14., after the venue receives a fresh coat of paint and signage is added
“For the most part, there’s not a whole lot we have to do in there,” Fosberg said. “We’re getting brand new video gaming machines in there. I’m getting a couple of dart boards, some pinball machines and some claw machines to try and make it more kid-friendly.”
