Pac-12 in danger of eventual collapse as Big Ten considers further expansion, Big 12 interest looms

The Big Ten’s continued pursuit of four Pac-12 schools is leading to concern that another round of expansion could collapse the Pac-12, industry sources tell CBS Sports. This as Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren continues to seek an offer from Amazon, or potentially another partner, for additional Big Ten football media rights revenue. An offer deemed substantial enough would likely convince Big Ten presidents that California, Oregon, Stanford and Washington would be valuable additions to the league from the Pac-12. That figure is believed to be less than $100 million annually. If the Big Ten makes such a move, it would almost certainly increase the likelihood the Big 12 is…

Geoff Collins out as Georgia Tech coach, Todd Stansbury likely out as AD

After three consecutive three-win seasons, Stansbury set a mandate for Collins to demonstrate progress and earn more wins in his fourth season. The loss to the Rebels, who outgained the Jackets 547-214, made the case for progress exceedingly difficult to make. Saturday’s 27-10 loss at Central Florida may have proved the final blow. The Jackets continued to make mental errors and failed to execute, a challenge that they had often failed to meet in Collins’ first three seasons. Almost unbelievably, Tech allowed four blocked punts in the first four games, all of which led to touchdowns. Ruinously for Collins, he oversaw the punt unit and was not able to fix…

Will Brett Favre be punished for alleged role in diverting Mississippi welfare funds?

Need to explain yourself, Favre.Image: Getty Images Brett Favre has been justly criticized for his alleged role in diverting funds from Mississippi’s welfare fund to a pet project of a volleyball court. His daughter played for the team, and with about $135 million in career earnings, he could certainly have managed a donation himself. Mississippi is by some metrics the poorest state in the union, compounding the injustice.  “…[I]s there any way the media can find out where it came from and how much?” Favre reportedly asked Mississippi officials in a text.  Favre’s involvement is a sports story, even though it was broken by reporter Anna Wolfe covering the poverty…
